Finally Really on Our Way. Sunday, May 20, 2007 - Happy Birthday, Jeff! Odometer at beginning of the day = 38560 We were dressed and ready to head out at 6:15am and the bike started right up but died as soon as we put it into gear. In our haste to put everything together in time to make the barbecue, we did not give the bike a test drive. If we had, we would have known we still had a problem. If we can't figure it out we will have to take it to the dealership. Back to troubleshooting again; we are either going back to Plan B or else this is now Plan E. The first thing to look at was the side stand switch. We had shorted two of the three wires to get the bike to start, but why was there a third wire? After reviewing the schematics again, we tried shorting all three wires together and that did the trick. Obviously there are two safety switches there; one keeps the bike from starting, the other keeps the bike from going into gear if the side stand is in the wrong position. After this short delay, we are off and trying to reach West Virginia to get back on schedule. Would you believe: Plan F??? We stopped two times to gas up and to shake the wedgies out. Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and finally West Virginia. We arrived at around 3:30pm local time. We were greeted warmly by Cliff, Anne, Jonathan, and Pepper and Belle, their dogs (Alyssa was at work). Anne served up a great home-cooked meal. We caught each other up on our lives over beef brisket, strawberry short cake, and a couple glasses of wine. Cliff and Jonathan used a doorknob to repair an electric guitar game counsel controller while we were there. Ask them about it if you get the chance. Alyssa got home from work after dinner and we had a little time to talk with her too. Thanks for the hospitality! We'll definitely have to get that brisket recipe when we get home from our trip. Mmmmmm! Pepper and Belle Odometer at end of the day = 39053 Miles ridden today = 493 |
