Southeast to Key West

Disaster

The ride that wasn't meant to be……....

Over the last few years Joyce and I have ridden our BMW R1150RT motorcycle through many of the United States and in 10 of the Canadian Provinces. We had only a few States in the Southeast remaining before completing our goal of riding in all 48 of the continental United States.

Our plan for this year's trip was to ride to Ohio and visit our son John, then to West Virginia to visit one of Jeff's brothers, then take a few days to ride through the Appalachian Mountains, then to Clearwater, Florida to visit another one of Jeff's brothers, then to Key West, then back home via Louisiana, the last State we needed to visit.

We had to make a number of our reservations ahead of time because the Memorial Day holiday made it difficult, if not impossible, to get a room without booking it in advance. That locked us into a timetable that we had to follow to complete the trip. If we didn't make it to one of our planned stops on time, every reservation after that was in jeopardy.
